In a thrilling display of athleticism, the Columbia High School boys and girls indoor track and field teams took to the track at the NJ State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 championships on February 16, 2025. The meet took place at the Bennett Center in Toms River, and it proved to be an event filled with exciting performances that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Girls Team Makes Their Mark

The girls’ indoor track team stepped into the spotlight and finished the competition in sixth place overall with a total of 21 points, showcasing their talent and hard work all season long. Junior Keira Monagle stole the show by clinching the top spot in the 1,600-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 5 minutes, 16.04 seconds – an impressive feat that earned her much-deserved recognition.

However, Monagle wasn’t the only one scoring points for the team. Freshman Amalia Mullen took on the grueling 3,200-meter run, finishing 14th with a time of 13:43.37, while fellow teammate Kendall Waite wasn’t far behind, finishing shortly after at 14:17.46. There’s certainly a bright future ahead for these young athletes!

Another standout performance came from junior Maya Kurland, who securely placed second in the pole vault with an impressive height of 7 feet, 6 inches. The girls’ 4×400-meter relay team also demonstrated great teamwork by finishing fourth with a remarkable time of 4:19.06, showcasing the talents of Anna Cooper, Margaret McManus, Sydney Kwan, and Monagle. Anna Cooper was even busy scoring individual points, placing ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.13.

Boys Team Fights with Grit

On the boys’ side, the performance was equally compelling, with the team placing 11th overall with a total of 7 points. Sophomore Levi Taber-Kewene delivered a strong performance in the 800-meter run, achieving an impressive third-place finish with a blistering time of 1:59.85. His dedication and speed were a true highlight for the Columbia boys.

Junior Leo Klint also made waves during the competition, finishing sixth in the 3,200-meter run with a commendable time of 9:52.26. His steadfast determination reflects the spirit of the entire boys’ team. Additionally, the boys’ 4×400-meter relay team showcased their teamwork by finishing ninth with a time of 3:37.40, consisting of Nate Wack, Miles Strother, Kevin Deves, and Lucian Caracciolo.

With such remarkable performances, the path is now paved for the top six finishers in each event to qualify for the NJSIAA’s Group 4 state championships, which will be held on February 23, 2025.
