Mesa High School Football Coach Faces Serious Charges

Mesa, AZ – A high school football coach is in serious legal trouble after being arrested at Dobson High School earlier this week. Richard Godsil, who has been the head coach since 2019, was taken into custody by Surprise police on Thursday. He is facing multiple charges including aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation and furnishing harmful items to minors.

Authorities have confirmed that the alleged crimes do not involve students from Dobson High School. During a court appearance, prosecutor Stephen Garcia stated, “This matter arose out of an ongoing sex trafficking operation investigation,” emphasizing the sensitivity of the case.

When the judge informed Godsil of a proposed bond amounting to $150,000, he appeared visibly shocked, reportedly saying “holy crap.” Citing the serious nature of the allegations and potential risk to the public, the judge eventually set a $100,000 secured appearance bond. This means Godsil can enlist a bonding company for bail but must wear an ankle monitor if released.

Following his arrest, Godsil was placed on administrative leave, and school officials promptly communicated with the Dobson families regarding the situation. “Our understanding is the case does not involve Mesa Public Schools students,” a message from Principal Gabbi Buckley stated, adding that the district will fully cooperate with police in their investigation.

Godsil had previously highlighted in his coaching bio his “decades of experience” and passion for mentoring student-athletes, stating, “Coaching gives me the opportunity to educate and inspire the young men I work with.” As the investigation continues, the community watches closely to see how this situation unfolds.
