Chicago Bears Prepare for Change with New Coaching Staff
Chicago is buzzing with excitement as the Chicago Bears announce the hiring of Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Johnson, who has made a name for himself in the NFL, is already hard at work assembling a coaching staff filled with familiar faces. Recent reports indicate that he is looking to bring on Dennis Allen as his defensive coordinator and Darren Rizzi as the special teams coordinator.
Johnson’s connection with Rizzi dates back to their time together in Miami, where Johnson served as the assistant quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, while Rizzi was the special teams coach. Both coaches were part of the coaching staff when Dan Campbell was the interim head coach in Miami, forming a strong bond that is sure to benefit the Bears.
On the other hand, although Johnson and Allen haven’t worked on the same staff, they share the Campbell connection. Johnson previously coached under Campbell in both Miami and Detroit, while Allen was alongside Campbell in New Orleans under Sean Payton.
Allen comes with a proven track record as a defensive coordinator. During his tenure with the New Orleans Saints, he led the team to a top-10 ranking in yards allowed per game in both 2020 and 2021. Additionally, the Saints ranked in the top five for points allowed during those years. Allen was at the helm of the Saints’ defense from 2015 until 2021, before stepping up as the head coach. In his three seasons as head coach, he went 18-25 without leading the team to a playoff appearance.
Meanwhile, Rizzi stepped in as the interim head coach of the Saints after Allen was let go, finishing the season with a 3-5 record. He has served as both special teams coordinator and assistant head coach with the Dolphins and Saints, contributing valuable experience to any coaching staff.
As the Bears move forward with this new coaching direction, fans are eager to see how these changes impact the upcoming season. The combination of Johnson’s leadership and the experienced coaches he is looking to hire could potentially reshape the Bears’ fortunes in the NFL.
