This year, Maryland witnessed one of its most thrilling high school football seasons, leaving fans buzzing with excitement. The top teams in the state shone brightly on the national stage, with Archbishop Spalding finishing at an impressive No. 6 in the Final SBLive/SI national rankings, while DeMatha landed at No. 24. The state also produced a remarkable number of top football recruits, indicating a bright future for Maryland football.

Among the standout players was Malik Washington from Archbishop Spalding. The University of Maryland recruit led his Cavaliers to a stellar 12-0 record. Washington threw for an impressive 2,095 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, enabling his team to win three consecutive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A Conference titles, something not achieved in three decades. With a starter record of 33-3, Washington has made quite an impact.

Another phenomenal performance came from Evan Blouir of Patuxent. This dual-threat quarterback dazzled fans by throwing for 2,771 yards and 32 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2,322 yards and 35 touchdowns. His efforts contributed to Patuxent’s first state championship win, ending Dunbar’s three-year championship streak.

Defensively, players like Delane from Good Counsel made their mark. This hard-hitting safety recorded a whopping 97 tackles, helping his team advance in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC). His skills have secured him a place at Ohio State University next year.

As the season closed, Emerson Howard from Quince Orchard was recognized as the Player of the Year for his outstanding performance, rushing for 1,197 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the Cougars to a perfect 14-0 season.

This year’s high school football season in Maryland was truly remarkable. With so many players showing exceptional talent and potential, Maryland’s future in football looks extremely promising.
