Chamblee, Georgia – In a unique intersection of high school football and former NFL greatness, Jamal Lewis finds himself navigating the journey of his son, Jazz Lewis, who is a freshman wide receiver at Chamblee High School. As a former star running back with the Ravens, Jamal knows what it takes to succeed on and off the field, but he is careful not to impose too much on his son’s football career. Instead, he hopes the young player is surrounded by the right coaching.
Fortunately for Lewis, the incoming offensive coordinator at Chamblee is none other than Ed Reed, a Hall of Fame safety who played alongside Jamal for five seasons in Baltimore. Lewis remarked, “Sometimes you need to upgrade the coaching staff,” adding that Reed is well-equipped to impart not just strategies for winning but also the essential culture of the game.
Chamblee High has recently attracted a group of former NFL players whose children play for the team. This past fall, the roster featured not only Jazz Lewis but also Edward Reed III and Kyle Oglesby, connecting a legacy of talent to the high school program. After a disappointing 2-9 season last year, Coach Bob Swank welcomed Reed into a formal role, hoping his wealth of knowledge would jumpstart the program.
“It’s just been going constantly since that point in time,” Swank said of the buzz surrounding Reed’s hiring. With Reed on board, he hopes to guide not only his son but the entire offensive unit, which includes Jazz Lewis, who led the team in receiving yards last season and has already caught the eyes of college recruiters.
Jamal Lewis has been supporting the team in a background role, working with the touchdown club to ensure players get visits from colleges like Clemson, Georgia, and even his own alma mater, Tennessee. Alongside Reed, he believes the new coaching approach will help Chamblee’s young players reach their collegiate aspirations.
As Ravens fans eagerly await the postseason, Jamal looks forward to the upcoming Chamblee season, which promises to be exciting with Reed and a promising young quarterback, Brayden Doss, at the helm. With Reed already delving into game tape and creating a playbook, the stage is set for a sparkling revival of the Bulldogs’ football program.
