Richmond, VA – The 2024 high school football season has officially come to an end after an exciting weekend filled with regional championship games. The thrill peaked with the Big River Rivalry All-Star Game on Saturday, where the South team edged out the North team 20-19 in overtime. This victory capped off a competitive season for the local talent in the Richmond region.

Among the standout players, Matoaca’s Bryce Yates received the MVP award for the South, showcasing his impressive stats with three receptions for 69 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jahkei Chavis from Armstrong was the North’s MVP, racking up six receptions and 147 yards, along with two touchdowns. The performances of these athletes will be remembered as they prepare for future accolades in the upcoming All-Metro football team.

This season also saw Benedictine emerging as the major champion by clinching the VISAA Division I title for the second year in a row, defeating St. Michael the Archangel convincingly with a score of 43-12. This win brought the Cadets their seventh state title, showcasing their dominance in the league.

On the VHSL side, Varina made a notable run to the Class 4 state final. Despite a strong defensive effort led by junior players like JaySean Richardson and Myles Anderson, the Blue Devils ultimately fell to Phoebus with a score of 23-6 but still finished the season ranked number one in the area.

As we take a look at the final standings, Varina topped the list with a record of 12-2, followed by Benedictine, Highland Springs, and Dinwiddie. The top ten teams reflect an exciting year, acknowledging the strong performances and growth of athletes throughout the season.
