Baltimore Ravens Waive Wide Receiver Diontae Johnson After Brief Stint with the Team

Baltimore Ravens Part Ways with Wide Receiver Diontae Johnson

The Baltimore Ravens have decided to waive wide receiver Diontae Johnson just 52 days after acquiring him in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. The partnership didn’t work out as Johnson struggled to find his place within the team and received minimal playing time. Following a refusal to enter the game during their 24-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on December 1, the Ravens enforced a suspension on him for their 35-14 victory against the New York Giants on December 15.

During his time with the Ravens, Johnson managed to catch just one pass for six yards across four games. His potential, however, is evident given his previous performance where he secured 30 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns during his stint with Carolina. Before joining the Panthers, Johnson had a productive five-year run with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2019 to 2023, posting averages of 78 catches for 873 yards and five touchdowns.

Johnson is now available on waivers, and other NFL teams have the chance to pick him up. According to reports, there seems to be a good amount of interest from various franchises, with waivers set to be cleared on Monday at 4 PM ET.

As the regular season nears its end, there are a few franchise possibilities for Johnson’s next stop. First, returning to Pittsburgh could be a smart move for all parties involved. With top receiver George Pickens sidelined for three consecutive games, Johnson could step in and contribute significantly alongside Calvin Austin III. During his time in Pittsburgh, Johnson had memorable success, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2021.

Next, the Washington Commanders are in need of a secondary receiver next to Terry McLaurin, especially after Noah Brown‘s injury. Johnson can offer significant offensive support as the team aims for a playoff spot.

Lastly, the Los Angeles Chargers, fresh off a thrilling 34-27 comeback win against the Denver Broncos, may look to strengthen their receiving core as they gear up for the playoffs. Adding Johnson could boost their offensive options significantly.

As the situation unfolds, the possibility of Diontae Johnson finding a new home soon is something to watch as his talent could be a game-changer for any team willing to take a chance on him.
