Westlake Chaparrals Take Down North Shore Mustangs in UIL Class 6A Semifinals
In a thrilling contest held in Arlington, Texas, the Westlake Chaparrals dominated the North Shore Mustangs with a convincing score of 35-10 in the UIL Class 6A Division 1 semifinals on Friday night at Legacy Stadium. With this victory, Westlake improved their record to 14-1, while North Shore also finished their season at 14-1.
From the get-go, the Chaparrals showcased their strength, putting the pressure on the Mustangs throughout the game. North Shore struggled to gain momentum against the formidable Westlake defense, leading to an impressive performance by the Chaparrals in both halves. Westlake went into halftime with a solid 21-10 lead and maintained their dominance in the second half.
Westlake’s junior quarterback Rees Wise played a crucial role, throwing for three touchdown passes and rushing for another. Wise completed 8 of 10 passes for 207 yards, displaying accuracy and poise under pressure. Meanwhile, running back Grady Bartlett contributed significantly with 84 yards on 9 carries, and one touchdown pass reception for 81 yards.
The Chaparrals jumped to an early start, with Wise connecting with his teammates for two quick touchdowns in the first quarter, giving Westlake a commanding lead. The Mustangs initially gained the lead with a 25-yard field goal by kicker Daniel Cruz, but Westlake swiftly took control of the game thereafter.

As the winner of this semifinal, Westlake now prepares to face the winner from the matchup between the Duncanville Panthers and North Crowley Panthers in the UIL Class 6A Division 1 championship, set for December 21 at 7 p.m. at AT&T Stadium.
In terms of statistics, Westlake accumulated a total of 436 yards (with 229 rushing and 207 passing), while North Shore tallied 349 yards (composed of 167 rushing and 182 passing). North Shore’s Kaleb Bailey led the Mustangs with 95 yards on 19 carries and attempted 23 passes, completing 12 for 153 yards.
This victory marks a significant achievement for the Chaparrals as they look to clinch the championship title in the upcoming final.
