Charlotte, NC – The excitement of high school football was palpable on Friday night as teams in the area competed fiercely in the regional championship games. Four teams secured their spots in the state finals, showcasing impressive performances as they vie for glory.
In the 4A Class, Grimsley pulled off a notable victory against Weddington, winning 35-23. Weddington, with a record of 13-1, had dreams of repeating as state champions but fell short against the tough Grimsley squad, who improved to 15-0. Meanwhile, Rolesville edged out Cardinal Gibbons with a score of 38-31, setting up a showdown against Grimsley at N.C. State this coming Saturday at 7 p.m.
The 3A Class saw West Charlotte defeat Hickory 36-20. West Charlotte, now 12-2, will take on Seventy-First, who secured a 43-7 victory over Jacksonville. Their championship match is set for Saturday at 11 a.m.
In the 2A Class, Monroe delivered a dominating performance against Brevard, winning 41-15. With a perfect record of 14-0, Monroe is gearing up to face Northeastern, who won their game 24-14 against Whiteville. The state final is scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Lastly, Corvian Community made history by winning their match against Mountain Heritage 28-19 in the 1A Class. They are set to compete against Tarboro, who crushed Wilson Prep 59-6, in the finals Saturday at 3 p.m.
