BIRMINGHAM — The 2024 Alabama High School Athletic Association Super 7 Championships have officially kicked off at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium. Over three exciting days, teams will compete for a total of nine state championships in both girls flag football and boys football.
The championship events began on Wednesday with the girls flag football matches. The day started strong with a thrilling contest between Montgomery Catholic and Moody. In a closely contested game, Montgomery Catholic emerged victorious with a score of 14-7, taking down a nationally ranked Moody team to secure the AHSAA Blue Map.
Later, Central-Phenix City showcased their dominance in the flag football category by absolutely overwhelming Spain Park, finishing the game with a staggering score of 55-7. This victory sent Central-Phenix City to the next level, as they prepared for the highly anticipated 7A championship match against Thompson, which is slated for later Wednesday evening.
As we look forward to the championship matches scheduled for Thursday and Friday, the excitement continues to build. On Thursday, fans can look forward to the 3A championship featuring Houston Academy and Mars Hill Bible at 11 a.m., followed by the 1A championship with Maplesville taking on Wadley at 3 p.m., and the 5A championship where Moody meets Montgomery Catholic at 7 p.m.
Friday will wrap up the Super 7 with a series of gripping matchups, starting with the 4A championship between Jackson and Cherokee County at 11 a.m., continuing with the 2A championship at 3 p.m. featuring Tuscaloosa Academy against Reeltown, and concluding with the highly anticipated 6A championship showdown between Saraland and Parker at 7 p.m.
