High School Football Playoffs Heat Up in Southern California with Thrilling Quarterfinals Action

In Southern California, the excitement of high school football reached new heights last Friday night as teams battled it out in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS and L.A. City playoffs. With thrilling finishes and standout performances, fans saw some impressive actions on the field.

One of the standout games was a Division 1 matchup where Mater Dei took down Sierra Canyon with a final score of 33-13. Mater Dei running back Jordon Davison, who has committed to Oregon, rushed for more than 100 yards, playing a key role in the team’s strong performance. The Monarchs will now advance to face Centennial in the semifinals.

Centennial earned their spot in the next round by defeating Mission Viejo 25-20, ending Mission Viejo’s impressive 18-game winning streak that stretched back to October 2023. Senior quarterback Husan Longstreet, committed to Texas A&M, made a crucial 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to secure the lead.

Another exciting game in Division 1 saw Orange Lutheran triumph over JSerra with a score of 42-20, having led 28-0 at halftime. They will now meet St. John Bosco, who pulled off a comeback against Santa Margarita, winning 31-29 despite trailing at one point.

Over in Division 2, Murrieta Valley cruised to a 49-28 victory against Los Alamitos. They will host Oaks Christian in the semifinals after Oaks Christian defeated San Juan Hills 35-21.

In a competitive Division 3 matchup, Simi Valley overcame La Habra 41-34 after trailing at halftime. Meanwhile, Edison secured a 24-0 win over Bonita, highlighting the strong performance of running back Julius Gillick.

As the playoffs continue, teams like Mater Dei, Centennial, and Murrieta Valley are gearing up for their semifinal matchups, ready to make their mark on the postseason.
