Cleveland, Ohio — The first week of the OHSAA high school football playoffs is in the books, and it was filled with exciting matchups and surprising outcomes across the divisions.
In Division I, Region 1, Berea-Midpark dominated Lorain with a score of 30-6. Canfield McKinley showed no mercy against Parma Normandy, winning 49-7. Massillon Jackson triumphed over Brunswick with a score of 24-3, while Mentor took down Cleveland St. Ignatius 31-7. St. Edward (OH) delivered a powerful performance against Findlay, shutting them out 48-0. Other notable scores included Strongsville 31-14 against Cleveland Heights and Toledo Whitmer’s impressive 49-0 victory against Cleveland John Marshall.
Meanwhile, in Region 2, Centerville secured a convincing 42-0 win over Beavercreek, while Dublin Coffman edged Galloway Westland with a 49-42 finish. Hilliard Davidson also had a great showing, beating Marysville 52-7.
In Division II, Region 5, Akron Hoban displayed their strength with a commanding 45-6 victory over Akron Firestone. Austintown-Fitch and Green also walked away with wins, beating Mayfield 31-7 and Painesville Riverside 35-14 respectively.
Division III saw Aurora explode for a whopping 69-8 victory against Bedford in Region 9. In Region 10, Cleveland Benedictine won decisively against Tiffin Columbian 35-7. Other strong performances came from Gahanna Lincoln and Pickerington Central, with final scores of 38-10 and 69-13 against Reynoldsburg and Pataskala Watkins Memorial, respectively.
It was an action-packed start to the playoffs with significant performances, and teams are beginning to establish themselves as serious contenders for the state championships. As the playoff rounds continue, fans can expect even more thrilling football and surprising twists.
