Greenwich, Connecticut – High school football is heating up in Connecticut as the regular season kicked off last weekend, following a couple of weeks of preseason action starting on the week of September 12. The state is buzzing with excitement as teams take to the field, vying for the title of the top team in 2024.
Currently leading the pack is the Brunswick School, showcasing a powerhouse lineup. The team is spearheaded by quarterback Blake Hebert, who has committed to Clemson. Alongside Hebert, the Bruins have Matty Augustine, a Notre Dame commit, and Jaylen Pray, committed to Syracuse. They further solidified their top spot with a convincing 38-13 victory over Deerfield Academy in Week 3.
In second place is the Choate Rosemary Hall School, which also flaunts significant talent. They powered through Kent School with a dominant win of 49-14. The standout player for Choate is Will Black, a 4-star offensive lineman committed to Notre Dame, making their upcoming clash against Avon Old Farms on November 2 highly anticipated.
The Masuk Panthers have made a name for themselves as the top public school after an impressive upset victory over New Canaan. Their coach, Steve Christy, is back, and the team is making a strong case for their competitiveness this season. Masuk previously managed a solid win over Kent School and followed it up by beating their next opponent.
Along with these teams, the Avon Old Farms has emerged as a significant contender, highlighted by strong players such as 3-star tackle Owen Aliciene, committed to Penn State, and 3-star defensive lineman Dante Recker. They too are demonstrating strength, racking up wins including a decisive 28-7 victory against Loomis Chaffee School.
Keep an eye on Greenwich, as they recently took down Bishop Hendricksen, the top ranked team in Rhode Island. Despite the pressure, they’ve shown resilience, and quarterback Nick Weil is leading the charge, throwing for impressive yardage and putting up multiple touchdowns with no interceptions.
The Windsor Warriors are making waves by entering the rankings at number eight after defeating Darien in a thrilling encounter. Led by running back John Manning, who has rushed for 605 yards this season, they are proving to be serious competitors.
