Trade Talks Heat Up in NFL as Teams Eye Wide Receivers

As Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season approaches, teams are busy evaluating their needs ahead of the upcoming trade deadline. Teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Washington Commanders are all looking to strengthen their rosters, particularly at the wide receiver position.

The Chiefs and Rams are in especially dire situations. The Chiefs recently learned they will be without wide receiver Marquise Brown for the entire season due to a shoulder injury. Following his successful surgery, Kansas City is now on the lookout for someone to fill that gap. On the other hand, the Rams are facing their own injury challenges. Wide receiver Puka Nacua could miss several weeks after injuring his knee in the season opener, and Cooper Kupp is in a cast for his high ankle sprain, with his return uncertain for now.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys and Commanders are not plagued by injuries but are seeking improved offensive production. CeeDee Lamb leads the Cowboys with 17 targets, while Jalen Tolbert is the only other player to receive double-digit targets. In Washington, under new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, the offense has struggled to gain traction. Running back Austin Ekeler and tight end Zach Ertz are leading the team in receiving yards, while wide receiver Noah Brown tops the wideout rankings with just 56 yards. Terry McLaurin is also underperforming, managing only 39 yards through two games.

As teams weigh their options, there is speculation around potential trade candidates like Davante Adams and Diontae Johnson, although currently, there are no signs that either player is officially on the market. A recent rule change now gives teams more time to decide on trades. Instead of the trade deadline falling on the Tuesday after Week 8, it will now occur on the Tuesday following Week 9, which falls on November 5 at 4 p.m. ET.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on these teams as they work to refine their rosters and enhance their chances for success.
