Excitement Builds in Minnesota High School Football Class 6A

As the high school football season marches on in Maple Grove, the anticipation grows around Class 6A. With just three weeks into the 2024 regular season, only four teams remain undefeated: Maple Grove, Lakeville North, Minnetonka, and Shakopee. The big question on everyone’s mind is, which of these teams can truly contend for the state championship?

Last week, Maple Grove managed to edge out a victory against Centennial with a close score of 21-14. Although they took the win, the performance raised eyebrows. Coach Adam Spurrell viewed the tight game positively, stating it was “the best thing that could have happened” for his team, preparing them for the challenging weeks ahead.

Lakeville North has emerged as a strong contender as they stand at 3-0, navigating through a tough early schedule. With five of their upcoming opponents sporting a combined record of just 6-9, the Panthers could very well manage to run the table this season.

On the other hand, Minnetonka and Shakopee, also undefeated, possess strong running games but face significant challenges ahead, including a crucial matchup between them on September 27.

Further complicating the race is the presence of Eden Prairie, a team with eleven state titles in its history. Meanwhile, defending champions Lakeville South are struggling after two losses and have lost those games by an average of just 3.5 points.

Other notable teams looking to make their mark include Anoka, which will face Maple Grove this Friday, and Mounds View, which has played impressive defense. Not to be overlooked, Eagan hopes to improve on last year’s performance against Lakeville South in a matchup that could see them challenge the reigning champions.

As teams gear up for another week of action, the questions linger: Who will emerge as the top team in Class 6A? Will anyone be able to run the table? Everyone will be watching closely.
