Edina Football Takes the Lead in Class 6A Rankings

Edina, MN – The first set of football state rankings for the 2024 season have officially been released, showing a clear leader in Class 6A. Edina sits at the top of the list after a strong performance against Eden Prairie, resulting in a commanding victory.

As for the other classifications, Elk River leads in Class 5A, Hutchinson shines in Class 4A, Stewartville is on top in Class 3A, Caledonia claims the lead in Class 2A, and Minneota is currently the number one team in Class 1A. In the Nine-Person category, Nevis and Mountain Iron-Buhl are tied for first place, showcasing their impressive skills this season.

These rankings are compiled by a group that includes 11 media members who contribute their votes to determine the standings. This marks the third consecutive year the rankings have been managed, providing fans with a reliable source of information on high school football across the state.

The rankings are updated typically after the second regular-season game each year. Alongside these class rankings, there is also a new feature this season: the “Minnesota Top 20.” This list highlights the top 20 teams in the state, regardless of class, giving an even broader perspective on the strong contenders in Minnesota football.

Looking at specific classes, in Class 6A, Edina leads with 107 points and has a record of 2-0. Following them are Lakeville North and Maple Grove with 101 and 98 points, respectively. In Class 5A, Elk River has 99 points, while Alexandria, with 85 points, is in second place.

As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how these rankings shift, especially with teams like Minnetonka having made a notable comeback after trailing in matches. Fans can expect an exciting football season as these teams battle for supremacy on the field.
