PCTI Implements New Safety Measures Following Shooting at High School Football Game

Passaic, New Jersey – Friday night lights will be looking a bit different for students at Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) this season. In response to a recent shooting at a high school football game on August 30, the school is implementing new safety measures to ensure the well-being of everyone attending games.

The tragic incident left two teenagers injured and has prompted immediate action from school officials. In an effort to increase security at events, PCTI will only sell game tickets online through a secure website. The entrance for attendees will close at halftime, and loitering in the parking lot during games will no longer be allowed. Additional police officers will be patrolling the stadium to maintain order and provide a safer environment.

Other significant changes include a strict no bag policy, meaning attendees will not be allowed to bring bags into the stadium, and any form of coverings, such as hooded sweatshirts, will also be banned. These measures come shortly after local prosecutors announced charges against an unidentified teen linked to the shooting.

Both victims have fortunately been released from the hospital and are now on the road to recovery. PCTI, known as the largest career and technical high school in the state, just began its new school year on Thursday.

In the aftermath of the violence, other school officials in the town have met with Wayne police to discuss security plans for upcoming games, though those specifics remain confidential. One community member expressed their feelings, stating, “It’s good they’re gonna do these safety measures, but it’s a shame we have to implement something like that.”

As the season progresses, it remains to be seen how these new policies will affect attendance and fan engagement, but safety is clearly the school’s top priority.
