Indiana High School Football Week 1 Recap: New Leaders Emerge in State Rankings

Indianapolis – The kickoff of Indiana high school football is officially in the books, and the excitement has already led to some shake-ups in the rankings. This week, two teams rose to the top of their classes in the latest poll conducted by statewide media members.

In Class 6A, Westfield has climbed three spots to take the No. 1 position after a thrilling 34-28 victory against previously ranked No. 3 Center Grove. On the flip side, last year’s state champion Ben Davis faced a tough challenge and was knocked down to No. 8 after they lost 24-6 to Cathedral.

In Class 5A, Merrillville has made a significant leap from No. 2 to No. 1 following their impressive 27-0 win over Andrean. Meanwhile, Decatur Central fell from the top spot to No. 6 after a disappointing 41-15 defeat against Columbus North in the 6A division.
