South Bend High School Football Kickoff: Week One Performances Shine
The first week of the high school football season in South Bend has started with excitement and impressive play. Fans have already witnessed some incredible performances from young athletes across the area, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead. Now, it’s time to recognize and vote for the standout players from week one!
Seven players have been nominated for their exceptional efforts on the field, each contributing to their team’s success. Nominees for Player of the Week
- Benwell (Boone Grove) – In a 27-17 victory, Benwell showcased his ability to lead, rushing for 134 yards and scoring a touchdown, along with a 51-yard touchdown pass.
- O’Neal (Cavemen) – O’Neal sparked a comeback against Marian, scoring three touchdowns in the second half, contributing to a 41-24 win.
- Scott (LaPorte) – Making plays on both sides of the ball, Scott rushed for two touchdowns and collected five tackles and a sack in a 33-14 victory.
- Jarrell (Jimtown) – Jarrell made a splash in his first varsity start, throwing for 166 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 144 yards and a score in a 34-12 win.
- Watson (Kingsmen) – In a thrilling 49-42 victory over Valparaiso, Watson excelled as a first-time starter, accounting for all seven touchdowns by rushing for four and throwing for three.
- Ramirez (Rockies) – Ramirez was instrumental in a 53-20 win against Twin Lakes, netting 227 yards rushing, 142 yards passing, and scoring five touchdowns.
- Jackson (Wildcats) – Jackson’s defensive prowess led to a historic night, recording two safeties and 13 tackles in a 35-0 win, marking a record-setting performance for the team.
