Exciting Kickoff to High School Football Season in Greater Cincinnati

Greater Cincinnati kicked off the 2024 high school football season with a thrilling start this weekend. The action kicked off on Thursday as Elder took on Withrow, winning decisively with a score of 28-6. This game was just the beginning, as more than 60 games were scheduled across the area for the following days.

On Saturday night, Hamilton shined on defense. They pulled off a commanding victory against Badin, holding their opponents to just 151 total yards and shutting them out 15-0. Gracen Goldsmith was the standout for Hamilton, rushing for 95 yards and scoring twice. Quarterback Antonio Mathis also had a strong showing, completing 16 of 21 passes for 132 yards.

Highlands secured a tight 17-7 win over Lexington Catholic, managing to outgain their opponents 322-170. Touchdowns from Isaac Niemann and Adam Surrey propelled Highlands ahead, while their defense prevented Lexington from finding the end zone after halftime.

In another action-packed game, Campbell County’s offense fired on all cylinders, beating Scott 63-27. Quarterback Lucas Anthrop dazzled with 187 passing yards, striking for three touchdowns and rushing for 189 yards and two more scores. It was a truly impressive performance.

Moeller also made waves with quarterback Matt Ponatoski throwing for nearly 400 yards and four touchdowns, showing why the Crusaders are ranked among the top teams in the area.

This first weekend included historic matchups and intense rivalries, such as the King of the Block rivalry between Moeller and Princeton.
