Perry Township High School Football Kicks Off With Big Win Over Central Catholic

Perry Township is buzzing as the high school football season started with an exciting matchup on Thursday night. The longstanding neighborhood rivalry between Perry and Central Catholic renewed at Perry’s Keith Wakefield Stadium, and it turned out to be a memorable night for the Panthers.

The Panthers came out on top, defeating Central Catholic decisively with a score of 35-0. This marks the third consecutive victory for the Panthers in this annual season opener, showcasing their strong performance and determination.

The highlight of the game was the Perry defense, which was impressive. They pitched a shutout against Central Catholic, holding them to just 175 total yards and forcing three turnovers throughout the match. The Panthers demonstrated their dominance from start to finish.

Kyson Walker was a standout player for Perry, scoring two touchdowns. He also made significant contributions on special teams, including a notable 54-yard punt return and a 32-yard kickoff return that helped set up additional touchdowns. Another key player, Caelob Hundley, ran for 123 yards on just ten carries, with an impressive 84-yard run that positioned Perry for another touchdown.

Central Catholic had a chance to get back in the game late in the first half, driving deep into Perry territory. However, Dominic Scott’s interception thwarted their efforts, allowing the Panthers to regain control of the momentum. “I took my drop and was watching the quarterback’s eyes,” Scott explained. “The second he snapped the ball, I could see where he was throwing it. I just got to my drop, saw the ball come my way and made sure I got it in my hands.”

The Panthers entered the fourth quarter leading 28-0. In the final minutes, Walker added another 24-yard touchdown run, pushing Perry’s lead to its final score of 35-0. The crowd at Wakefield Stadium celebrated as the Panthers showed their strength all night long.

Perry has proven to be a formidable force in this fierce rivalry, winning six of their last seven games against Central Catholic. As the season progresses, it will be exciting to see how both teams perform and develop.
