With the weather forecast calling for a cloudy day with highs hitting around 63°F, now is a fantastic time to cheer on our Triton teams as they strive for glory!
Baseball Success on the Mound
The Tritons’ baseball team has been on a hot streak, recently defeating Beckman High with a solid score of 5-0. Senior left-hander Mike Erspamer truly shone during this match, pitching a complete-game shutout while striking out an impressive nine batters. With this win, Erspamer’s season record is now 4-3, alongside a sparkling 2.38 ERA and a total of 61 strikeouts over 35⅓ innings. It’s great to see our Tritons come together, with junior Kai Cesare contributing a clutch two-run double to extend the winning streak to three games.
Currently, the Tritons hold an overall record of 9-9 and are neck-and-neck in the Sea View League standings at 2-2, with San Juan Hills leading at 4-2. The excitement is building as they push for the league title!
Lacrosse Takes the Field
Switching gears to lacrosse, the boys’ lacrosse team continues to impress with an overall record of 9-5, riding high with a 6-0 record in league play! The Tritons have been scoring goals left and right, accumulating a total of 130 goals across 14 games. Leading the charge is senior Kai Morgan, who has racked up over 30 goals this season. Their only recent setback was a close match against the undefeated Dos Pueblos High, finishing at 7-5. With three crucial games ahead, including a showdown against Aliso Niguel High, the boys are eager to make their mark!
Tennis Team Battle
In the world of boys’ tennis, Coach Gar Greenberg is singing the praises of his players as they fight fiercely in the South Coast League. The top doubles team includes stellar seniors Xander Reid and sophomore Grant Call, while the singles lineup boasts seniors Michael Delaney, Blake Menden, and Cooper Pesch. Recently, Reid was awarded the CIF Southern Section-Ford Academic Athlete of the Year, a testament to his hard work both on and off the court. The team is gearing up for challenging matches against league leaders Tesoro, as well as second-place Dana Hills High.
Golf, Track, and Volleyball Updates
On the green, the golf team stands at a league record of 3-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of Capistrano Valley High. Coach Marc Parker notes how the team’s depth and talent have been shining, especially with freshman Knox Wenger making significant contributions. There’s a strong emphasis on cultivating mental toughness as they work on closing out performances strong.
The track and field athletes are setting their sights on personal bests as they prepare for the prestigious 65th Mt. SAC Relays, which provides them a fantastic chance to fine-tune their skills leading up to the CIF Championships.
As for the boys volleyball team, they currently hold a record of 18-9 and are 6-1 in league play, with excitement building as they gear up to close their regular season against Aliso Niguel.
Softball and Girls’ Lacrosse Shine Bright
In softball, the Tritons boast a remarkable record of 17-5-1, which includes a 2-0 mark in league play. Their strong performances have earned them a spot ranked 25th in the Orange County Register’s High School Softball Top 25. The girls’ lacrosse team isn’t lagging behind, either! With a brilliant record of 13-1 overall and 5-0 in league, they are facing tough match-ups ahead against San Juan Hills and Trabuco Hills.
