Track and Field Action in Angels Camp!
Angels Camp, CA – The energy was electric on March 22, 2025, as the Bret Harte High School track and field teams hit the ground running at the third annual Sky Mote Memorial Invitational held at Union Mine High School. The event brought together a whole pack of schools from the region, but Bret Harte stood out as the only team representing the Mother Lode League. Talk about school pride!
With schools like Amador, Argonaut, and Del Oro in attendance, our athletes were up against some tough competition. Despite the challenge, both the boys’ and girls’ teams put in fantastic efforts, demonstrating their hard work and determination in various events. When the dust settled, the boys’ team secured a solid 16th place overall while the girls’ team came in at 13th place.
Boys’ Team Highlights
In the boys’ events, junior David Willey made his mark by finishing fifth in both the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.40 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles at 44.39 seconds. That’s some serious agility!
For the sprints, Willey also participated in the 100-meter dash, where he took 15th place with a time of 12.01 seconds. Fellow junior Sachar Anglin followed up in the same race, finishing 31st at 12.55 seconds, and Ezequiel Robles placed 33rd at 12.62 seconds. In the 200-meter race, Marcos Espejel claimed 33rd with a time of 27.05 seconds.
In the 400-meter race, Niko Kreisberg came in at 23rd (57.33 seconds) and Espejel rounded out another solid performance at 30th (59.41 seconds).
Throwing events also showcased the talents of the team. Senior Keegan Arvin shone brightly with an impressive sixth place finish in discus at 125 feet, 10 inches, and also ranked 11th in shot put at 35 feet, 8.5 inches. Other notable performances included high jump sensations, with Tumi Owens landing at fifth with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches.
Girls’ Team Highlights
The girls’ squad sparkled with their own impressive performances! Junior Annelise Zumbach caught everyone’s attention in the 100-meter race, finishing seventh with a time of 13.22 seconds. Close behind were senior Caitlin Johnson in 15th (13.71 seconds) and junior Ella Casci in 17th (13.82 seconds). Casci didn’t stop there, shining in the 200-meter race as well, where she placed 10th with a time of 28.77 seconds.
Other standout performances included junior Ayla Jodie, who finished 10th in the 400 meters (1:07.07), and the girls’ 4×100-meter relay team, which claimed fourth place in 52.21 seconds, showcasing their excellent teamwork and speed.
Overall, the day proved to be beneficial for both teams, with valuable experience gained as they prepare for the upcoming season. They will be back in action at the O’Condon Invitational on April 5, 2025, and the excitement will ramp up even more when the Mother Lode League competition officially kicks off on April 10, 2025.
