Swimming Takes the Plunge into Competition

The Boulder City High School boys swimming team has dived right into the season with dreams of clinching the 3A state championship. They showcased their talent at a recent 12-team meet held at Heritage Pool on March 8. And it was a splash-tastic event for them!

Duncan McClaren made waves by clinching first place in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events. His incredible performance had everyone cheering. Fellow teammate Tate Orton wasn’t far behind, finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly and securing the runner-up position in the 200-yard freestyle. Not to be outdone, LeAndre Daniels snagged second in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. Canyon Lenon also made a strong showing, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke.

On the girls’ side, Zoey McClaren led the charge, winning both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events. Chayce Larson had solid runs too, finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle. The swimming team will take to the pool again on March 29 after a refreshing spring break.

Volleyball Victories Light Up the Court

The boys volleyball team is also setting the stage on fire with a fantastic start to league play. The Eagles kicked things off with impressive wins against Sloan Canyon and SLAM Academy, both with clean scores of 3-0!

When they faced Sloan Canyon on March 5, Boulder City dominated the court with scores of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-15. Sam O’Shaughnessy and Gibson Lamoreaux were offensive powerhouses, each contributing seven kills. Chandler Shamo also impressed with six kills, while Preston Van Beveren rounded things out with five kills. Defensively, O’Shaughnessy and Tyler Bradshaw added five digs.

On March 7, the Eagles took on SLAM Academy and delivered yet another dazzling performance with scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19. Shamo again took the lead with ten kills, while David Zwahlen added an impressive nine kills, 10 digs, and three service aces. With a current record of 5-4, the Eagles are set to take on Canyon Springs at home on March 24. Make sure to catch that match!

Baseball Rounds the Bases with Wins

It’s been a thrilling few games for the Boulder City High School baseball team, who currently holds a solid record of 2-1 against 3A schools. They faced Moapa Valley in an intense game on March 5, winning 9-8, thanks to Tate Crine’s red-hot bat, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Gauge Rhodes also contributed with two RBIs, and Ethan Wagstaff’s pitching was stellar, scoring eight strikeouts.

On March 10, the Eagles triumphed over Canyon Springs with a convincing score of 12-2. Gavin Robinson was the winning pitcher, striking out nine batters, while Cael Starley went 3 for 5, racking up three RBIs. Unfortunately, they faced tough competition against Spring Valley and lost 11-3 on March 8. But no worries—the team is determined, and they’ll hit the road for the Blazer Bash, where they’ll face 5A Green Valley and Herriman soon.

Golf and Softball on the Rise

Now, don’t forget about the golf team, who recently edged out Pahrump Valley with a narrow victory of 366-369 on March 5. Chase Kovacevich stole the spotlight by shooting an impressive 82, ranking first among 18 golfers. Hank Stark and Bennet Forney also put in solid efforts, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.

The softball team has also put on a show, achieving impressive wins against Del Sol and Mater East. With a smashing victory of 15-0 over Del Sol, Payton Rogers struck out ten batters while contributing an RBI, and Baylee Cook went 3 for 3 with five RBIs. They followed that up with a 10-0 victory against Mater East, where Rhiley Beck shined with 14 strikeouts and a 2 for 2 batting performance. The team is gearing up to head to St. George, Utah, for the March Warm Up tournament.

Head coach John Balistere earned the title of Coach of the Year, while senior guard Sean Pendleton claimed Player of the Year honors by averaging 18 points per game.
