Excitement Builds in Riverton as High School Softball Season Kicks Off!
Riverton is buzzing with excitement as the 2025 high school softball season is set to commence on March 3. There’s a particular thrill in the air, especially since all five defending state champions are opening the season with a prestigious rank of No. 1 in the Deseret News preseason coaches rankings. This is the kind of news that every softball fan has been waiting for!
Meet the Champions!
Let’s take a closer look at our incredible defending champions:
- Riverton (6A)
- Spanish Fork (5A)
- Ridgeline (4A)
- Grantsville (3A)
- Enterprise (2A)
Riverton Leads the Pack
Starting with Riverton, the defending 6A champion had an impressive run last season with 27 wins. This year, they are looking mighty strong with the return of ace pitcher Peyton Sanchez, who boasted an impressive record of 22 wins and a 3.33 ERA in 2024. And let’s not forget about all-state corner infielder Maggie Hamblin, who electrified the field with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs.
But Riverton isn’t the only team to watch out for. Coming in as No. 2 in the 6A preseason rankings is Herriman, who’s ready to challenge them for the title. Herriman has two fantastic first-team all-staters: Tanzie Smith and McKenzie Quintero.
A New Season for Spanish Fork
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork, although coming off a graduation wave that cleared most of its offense, is still flying high in 5A as they embrace the challenge. The spotlight now shines on their shortstop, Jade Romero, a two-time first-team all-stater, who is eager to showcase her skills.
Let’s not forget about Springville, last year’s runner-up, which opens ranked No. 2 in 5A! This rivalry is just heating up, folks!
Ridgeline Ready to Roar
In 4A, Ridgeline takes the top spot, coming off a stellar season. The team is thrilled to welcome back ace pitcher Brielle Gardiner, who was honored as last year’s Ms. Softball after a remarkable performance of 27-1 with a jaw-dropping 0.776 ERA. Another fantastic player returning is Anne Wallace, who has etched her name in history with a whopping 45 home runs and 128 RBIs throughout her career.
Locked in for a fierce competition, Desert Hills is nipping at Ridgeline’s heels, ranked No. 2 in 4A, with ace pitcher Lulu West setting things in motion for them!
3A and 2A Defending Champs
Grantsville is ready to defend their title in 3A and is welcoming back their star, Elise Smith, the 3A Player of the Year. They’re not alone, as they have magic in the form of three other first-team players: Payton Bytheway, Hayden Bytheway, and Eden Ressel. Meanwhile, Emery, last year’s runner-up, kicks off the season as No. 2.
Moving on to Enterprise, they might’ve let a few key players go, but they still possess a strong depth chart. Keep an eye out for Kynlee Reber, who is all set to take the mound after an impressive 7-0 record and 42 strikeouts last season.
With South Sevier also returning eight contributors from last year’s squad, they’ll be looking to capitalize on the state title chase, starting at No. 2.
Game Day Fun Awaits!
As warmer weather rolls in, a full slate of tournaments is ready to unfold, including exciting matchups such as the IWA’s managed tournament and the CCISD Bayfront Bash. Games are already lined up across several schools in Corpus Christi starting from February 24 to March 1. Last year, we saw some nail-biting matches, with Alice defeating Miller 18-3, Odem overcoming Port Aransas 14-3, and London winning against Beeville 12-2.
This is just the beginning of what promises to be a thrilling high school softball season in Riverton! So mark your calendars and get ready to cheer for your favorite teams as they make their mark on the field!
