Athletes from a wide 150-mile radius around Billings showcased their skills, and boy, did they put on quite the show!
Thrilling Performances and New Records
Among the highlights of the day, Bozeman Gallatin junior Anita Black made waves by securing victory in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a lightning-fast time of 15.56 seconds. In the fiercely contested girls’ 100-meter dash, Emery Peel of Billings Senior just edged out Bozeman Gallatin’s Isabella Donaghey, winning by a mere whisper at 12.57 seconds compared to Donaghey’s 12.61 seconds. Excitement rippled through the crowd as the finish line loomed closer!
A Historic Day for Records
There were more thrilling moments as new meet records fell like leaves in autumn. Billings Central’s William Snell electrified fans by setting a new personal best and a meet record in the boys’ 400-meter dash with a remarkable time of 48.66 seconds, smashing the old record of 48.92 seconds established back in 2003.
The shot put was another event that had spectators on the edge of their seats, with Rae Smart of Billings Skyview launching a record-breaking throw of 46 feet, 5 inches. Not stopping there, Smart also claimed first place in both the discus and javelin events, proving to be a powerhouse of talent!
In the boys’ triple jump, Dylan Garcia from Billings West leaped an impressive 44 feet, 4 inches, while Laurel’s Bridger Burrows soared even higher with a jump of 44 feet, 8.75 inches. Switching gears to the girls’ side, Cori Coombe of Joliet hit a personal record in the girls’ triple jump with an exceptional distance of 37 feet, 9.5 inches.
The Relay Events Steal the Show

Just when you thought the records couldn’t fall any faster, in an epic finish, Avery Gerdes of Huntley Project sprinted to victory in the girls’ 400 meters, clocking in at 56.07 seconds, breaking a record that had been held since 2015. The excitement was palpable when Gallatin’s girls’ 1,600-meter relay team crossed the finish line with a blazing time of 3:57.27, resetting a mark that dated back to 2003.
