Washington Commanders Complete 2025 NFL Draft with Key Additions

In the nation’s capital, the Washington Commanders wrapped up their 2025 NFL Draft with a series of strategic selections aimed at strengthening their roster. Despite having the second smallest draft class this year with just five players picked, the team focused on filling specific needs while also incorporating talent that aligns with their team culture.

Assistant General Manager Lance Newmark expressed his enthusiasm during the end-of-draft press conference, stating, “It may not be huge volume but we’re really excited about what was available for us at each pick. We felt like we could go into this with, ‘Hey this guy is the best player’ or ‘He makes the most sense.’ We’re not tied to need.” This approach has added flexibility to the Commanders’ draft strategy, allowing them to choose players who stood out for their abilities rather than strictly filling positional gaps.

Among the notable selections, cornerback Trey Amos was picked 61st overall. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 195 pounds, Amos is known for his impressive stats, including 13 pass breakups during his time in college, solidifying his reputation as a strong defensive player.

The Commanders also bolstered their linebacker squad by selecting Kain Medrano from UCLA with the 205th overall pick. Medrano, measuring 6-foot-3 and 222 pounds, was recognized as a Third Team All-Big Ten selection and is coming off an impressive season where he racked up 72 tackles.

Additionally, the wide receiver room gained depth with the drafting of Jaylin Lane at the 128th pick. Lane, a versatile player with over 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns in his college career, is expected to bring a new dynamic to the Commanders’ offense.

Finally, the team’s last selection was running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt at the 245th pick. Croskey-Merritt stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 206 pounds, showcasing his skills at the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Overall, while the number of picks was low, the Washington Commanders sought out talent they believe can contribute immediately. As they move into the next stage of the offseason, fans and analysts are eager to see how these selections will impact the team’s performance moving forward.
