NC State Athletes Shine at Penn Relays

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State track and field team wrapped up an exciting weekend at the Penn Relays and LSU Alumni Gold meets, with standout performances from athletes Grace Hartman and Tyson Adams. Both athletes achieved NCAA Division I No. 6 rankings in their respective events.

Grace Hartman was impressive in the 1500 meters, recording a time of 4:07.19, which not only captured her a second-place finish but also shattered the Penn Relays meet record. This remarkable achievement ranks her No. 6 in NCAA Division I this season and places her No. 2 on the program’s all-time top-10 list. Close behind her, Angelina Napoleon finished in fourth place with a personal best of 4:13.02, landing her at the No. 7 spot on the program’s all-time list.

In the field events, Makala Wright showcased her skills in the hammer throw, earning a season best with a mark of 56.26m (184′ 7″) and finishing in 10th place. Ta’Honny Exum also made waves, securing ninth place in the shot put with a throw of 14.69m (48′ 2.5″). Jakerra Covington threw the javelin for 41.38m (135′ 9″), finishing in seventh place, while Luke Thierfelder recorded a throw of 59.74m (196′ 0″), achieving a 10th place finish.

Tyson Adams delivered an outstanding performance in the long jump, securing second place with a jump of 7.90m (25′ 11″). This achievement ranks him No. 6 in NCAA Division I this season and places him at No. 4 on the program’s all-time list.

The women’s triple jump also saw solid efforts, with Mariama Hunt placing fifth at 12.40m (40′ 8.25″) and Jayda Hunter close behind in seventh at 12.35m (40′ 6.25″). In the high jump, Audrey Jenkins cleared 1.65m (5′ 5″) to finish in ninth place, marking another season best for her.

Next for the NC State track and field team is the Duke Twilight meet, where they will close out their regular season on May 4. With these impressive performances, the athletes are looking to carry their momentum into the next competitions.
