Record-Breaking Highlights

Let’s start off with a bang! Phoenix Country Day School’s senior superstar, Sam Novak, has officially set a new Arizona state record in pole vaulting! He cleared an astounding 17 feet, 8 inches at the Top of the Mountain Invite on April 15. Talk about raising the bar, right?

Meanwhile, junior Amerah Richardson from Chandler Arizona College Prep soared through the air in the long jump, achieving a personal best of 19 feet, 5.5 inches. Not only does this performance put her at the top of the state rankings, but it also ranks her sixth all-time in Arizona history! Hot stuff!

A Jam-Packed Weekend of Competitions

The Top of the Mountain Invite showcased some other fantastic performances. Junior Lizzy Gannon from Phoenix Desert Vista snagged the win in the long jump with an impressive jump of 19 feet, 10.75 inches. Although it was wind-aided and won’t count for record purposes, it definitely showed her incredible talent.

In high jumping, Kyana Williams from ALA Queen Creek cleared 5 feet, 9 inches at the Ben Franklin Friday Night Lights event, marking a state season lead and tying her for seventh in the history books of Arizona. Game on!

Fast Times and Strong Throws

But that’s not all! Junior Nicole Ripperdan from Queen Creek impressed everyone by running the 800 meters in a personal best of 2 minutes, 11.43 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays. Pretty safe to say she’s now the top runner in the state!

Also making waves at the Top of the Mountain Invite was Juliana Garcia from Chandler Basha, who won the discus throw with a distance of 141 feet, 7 inches. This performance puts her in the second position in the state rankings. Go, Juliana!

Fresh Talent Emerges

Keep an eye on freshman Peyton-Rae Isaac from Waddell Canyon View! She finished second in the 400 meters at the Agua Fria District Championships with a time of 56.71 seconds, marking a significant milestone as the first freshman to break the 57-second barrier this season. She’s certainly a name to watch!

In the high jump, Janie Brower of Gilbert Highland took home the gold with a jump of 5 feet, 5.5 inches, moving her up to third in state history. Meanwhile, Mia Kemp from Peoria Liberty, known as the state’s top heptathlete, wowed the crowd by winning the triple jump at the Top of the Mountain Invite with a mark of 38 feet, 7.5 inches, ranking her third in history for that event.

The Relay Race of the Century?

The Chandler Wolves relay team definitely made a name for themselves with a remarkable 4×400-meter relay time of 3:46.52 at the same invite. This performance puts them fifth all-time in Arizona history, and they now hold four of the top ten times ever recorded in this event. This team is bringing some serious heat!
