HOUSTON – Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead on Saturday night, confirming a tragic turn of events for the young athlete. An official from LSU shared the news with the public on Sunday, leaving many in shock. The cause of his death has not been revealed as of yet.

In a statement regarding Lacy’s passing, LSU expressed their deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”

Lacy, who was just 24 years old, recently faced serious legal issues. He was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle after a crash that led to the death of a 78-year-old man on December 17. He reportedly fled the scene without calling for help or reporting the incident. After turning himself in on January 12, he was jailed briefly before being released on $151,000 bail.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office had indicated that a grand jury was set to hear evidence regarding the case shortly after his passing. In a statement from Lacy’s attorney, it was requested that the media respect the family’s desire for privacy during this difficult time. The attorney expressed confidence that the evidence would eventually lead to a declination of charges, emphasizing the need for a thorough review of the investigation.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed and was involved in an intense series of maneuvers that led to the crash. Reportedly, several vehicles were impacted as Lacy illegally passed through a no-passing zone, resulting in a collision that caused serious injuries and ultimately the death of a passenger in a different vehicle.

Lacy had declared for the NFL draft just two days after the tragic event, missing LSU’s victory over Baylor in the Texas Bowl. Prior to the incidents, he was considered a promising prospect in the NFL draft, having caught 58 passes for 866 yards and leading his team with nine touchdowns last season.
