In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, tragedy struck as former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy has died at the young age of 24, according to an athletics spokesman from the university. The LSU Athletic Department confirmed Lacy’s passing but did not disclose the details surrounding his death. Reports indicate that Lacy, a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, was found deceased in the Houston area. The local police in Houston have directed queries to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office, who, as of Sunday, had not responded to requests for more information.
Lacy’s life took a serious turn earlier this year when he was implicated in a car crash in December that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man named Herman Hall. According to investigations, Lacy was accused of reckless driving, including speeding and passing in a no-passing zone. It was reported that he fled the scene of the accident without offering assistance. He faced charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle, with a grand jury set to examine the evidence in his case this upcoming Monday.
Just days after the crash, Lacy declared for this month’s NFL draft, missing the opportunity to play in LSU’s victory against Baylor in the Texas Bowl on December 31. During his last season with LSU, he lead the team with nine receiving touchdowns and was an impactful player, recording 58 catches and 866 receiving yards over 12 games.
In other NFL news, the Chicago Bears have finalized a three-year contract extension for Kyler Gordon, reportedly worth $40 million. This extension makes Gordon the highest-paid slot cornerback in the league with an annual salary of about $13.33 million. Meanwhile, the Bears faced challenges during the Caleb Williams era, seeking to improve in the upcoming season.
Additionally, Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton expressed his optimism regarding a potential contract extension, indicating that discussions are heading in a positive direction. Over the weekend, several NFL players participated in the third edition of the Sports Fishing Championship’s “The Catch” competition, bringing a moment of fun amidst the challenges of the football season.
