Avon Lake Thrives in Sunny Glow at Track Meet
Avon Lake, Ohio, welcomed an unexpected wave of sunshine on April 5, 2025, as the Avon Lake Invitational Track Meet unfolded at Avon Lake High School. Known for its often chilly and soggy weather, this year’s competition surprised everyone with mild and mostly dry conditions, making the event a delightful experience for both participants and spectators.
As the day progressed, temperatures dipped from a comfortable low 60s to the cooler upper 40s. A lazy mist rolled across the stadium towards the end of the meet, yet it barely dampened the spirits of the athletes or the excitement in the air.
Meet director and head coach for the boys and girls teams, Jeff Arra, breathed a sigh of relief; the track and field events went off with far better weather than usual, allowing everyone to showcase their talents without battling the elements.
Brunswick High School Claims Dual Titles
This year, Brunswick High School stole the spotlight by winning both the boys and girls team titles. The boys finished strong with a total of 94 points, narrowly beating out Walsh Jesuit, who finished close behind at 89 points. On the girls’ side, Brunswick dominated with a fantastic score of 116 points, greatly surpassing Canton GlenOak, who finished with 94.5 points. The Rocky River girls also made a mark by finishing third with 72 points, boasting what turned out to be promising performances from their distance runners.
Rocky River Shines with Stellar Performances
The star of the show for Rocky River was none other than senior Grace Lavelle. She snagged first place in the 1,600-meter run with an impressive time of 5:21.87. Her teammate Katie Stirm also displayed skillful running, taking third in the 1,600 meters.
Other notable achievements from Rocky River included Jane Rathbun, who secured second place in the 800 meters, and long-distance talents Jane McCann and Brooke Hogan taking first and second in the 3,200 run with times of 11:45.41 and 11:48.78, respectively.
