On a sunny afternoon in Colorado, fans and scouts alike gathered to witness an exciting Pro Day event that starred standout athlete Travis Hunter. The young football player made headlines not just for his impressive skills but also for a clear message he had for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell regarding his future in the league.
After showcasing his talents, Hunter was asked what position he wanted Goodell to announce when he is selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Without hesitation, he stated, “He better say, ‘Wide receiver and DB.’ I need him to say, ‘Wide receiver and DB.’” This statement emphasizes Hunter’s aspirations to play both positions in the NFL, reflecting the dual-threat abilities he demonstrated during his college career.
In the past season, Hunter’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary. He caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, earning him the prestigious Fred Biletnikoff Award for being the nation’s top receiver. On defense, he wasn’t shy either, recording four interceptions which helped him snag the Chuck Bednarik Award for the best defensive player. His remarkable play was capped off by winning the Heisman Trophy, making him only the second defensive player ever to take home this coveted award, following in the footsteps of the legendary Charles Woodson.
During the Pro Day, Hunter opted out of individual drills at the NFL Scouting Combine but made his mark by running routes and catching passes from his former teammate, Shedeur Sanders, who is also expected to be a first-round draft pick. Hunter expressed pride in showing off his skills, saying, “I had to show them these hands and [that] I can run routes. They say I can’t run routes, so I had to show them.”
With the 2025 NFL Draft on the horizon, all eyes will be on Travis Hunter to see if he gets the chance to fulfill his dream of playing as both a receiver and a defensive back in the league.
