Charlotte Swimmers Shine in 2025 All-Observer Swim Teams

In the heart of Charlotte, the swim scene has seen some astounding talent come to the forefront in the 2025 All-Observer swim teams. These teams spotlight the best high school swimmers from a wide area, which includes Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, and Union counties. It’s safe to say that swimming is making waves in this region!

Girl’s Swimmer of the Year: Elle Scott

This year, the honor of girls’ swimmer of the year goes to Charlotte Country Day senior Elle Scott. A true powerhouse, she showcased her skills at the NCISAA Division I state championship meet in February. At the Greensboro Aquatic Center, she didn’t just compete; she conquered! Elle snagged state titles in the 200 individual medley with a phenomenal time of 1:56.60 and the 100 breaststroke at 58.93. But wait, there’s more! During the preliminaries, she set a new national record in the 100 breaststroke with an astonishing 58.56 seconds!

Not only did she shine individually, but Elle also proved to be a team player, helping her Buccaneers clinch victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.68 and the 400 freestyle relay at 3:24.32. Throughout the meet, she set school records in all four events she took part in, reinforcing her title as the most valuable player—an accolade she secured for the second year in a row!

Boy’s Swimmer of the Year: Michael Rice

swimmer of the year is awarded to Marvin Ridge junior Michael Rice. This talented swimmer made quite the splash at the NCHSAA 4A state championships, where he didn’t just participate, he dominated! Michael earned state titles in both the 100 freestyle and as a member of the 400 free relay team. He also made history by setting a meet record in the 100 freestyle.

A standout athlete already committed to Auburn University, he was also the runner-up in the 50 freestyle and helped his team with a solid finish in the 200 medley relay, ultimately leading Marvin Ridge’s boys’ team to a third-place finish overall.

Coaching Excellence

The coaching accolades were just as exciting! Lake Norman Charter’s Stewart Isaacs took home the title of boys’ coach of the year. Under his guidance, the Knights achieved their very first state championship in the 3A category. Remarkably, they did so without having any individual state champions but still secured a runner-up finish in the 400 free relay.

In the girls’ category, the coaching honors were split between two impressive figures. Ben Keast from Charlotte Country Day led his team to their second consecutive NCISAA Division I state title while Ben Sharrer from Myers Park whisked the team to their fourth straight NCHSAA 4A state title in a thrilling finish against Green Hope.

First and Second Team Honors

Moving onto the swimmers themselves, the first-team selections include fantastic talents such as Emma Richardson, Joslyn Bolton, Zetta Grace Bartee, and Clarke Neace, among others. These athletes showcased their incredible skills across various events with impressive performances throughout the championships.

For the second team, swimmers across different events didn’t disappoint, showing their own remarkable achievements whether in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, medley, or relay events.

With the current crop of talent and the positive momentum in the Charlotte swim community, one thing is clear: the future of swimming is bright! Here’s to the champions, record-breakers, and coaches who made the 2025 swim season unforgettable!
