Excitement Is in the Air as Kingston High Golf Teams Hit the Greens
Kingston, get ready! The Kingston High School golfers are all set to tee off for the upcoming 2025 season starting this week. The buzz around the teams is electric as the boys and girls golf squads recently gathered at their home course, Wiltwyck Golf Club, to sharpen their skills, even amidst the chilly temperatures of early spring. Despite the cold, both teams demonstrated their potential to make a splash in the Section 9 golf circuit.
Meet the Coaches and Talented Teams
Leading the charge for the boys team is head coach Juan Weissenberg, who has a stellar record when it comes to developing golfing talent. His experience shone through last year when he made the cut at the prestigious 2024 New York State Open held at the legendary Bethpage Black. This season promises to be exciting, especially since the boys team will not be losing any of their starters from last year, which is sure to be a boost for their performance.
Key Players to Watch
Among the stars from last season were Thomas Lasecki, Austin Hand, Jack O’Reilly, and Antonio Cecelia, all of whom are expected to make big contributions again this year. Special attention is on Austin Hand, a sophomore left-handed player, who has demonstrated remarkable improvement throughout his practice rounds. Another standout, Jack O’Reilly, proved his skills by qualifying for the NYSPHSAA Golf Championships two years in a row and aims to make it a hat trick this season. Last year, Kingston had four players qualify for the OCIAA Golf Championships, and with sophomores like Andre Miller also expected to step up, the competition is heating up.
There’s also some fresh talent in the mix! Jameson Beesmer, an eighth-grader, is battling for a starting spot alongside senior Sam Kovaleski. The boys team is eager to improve last year’s 6-9 dual-meet record and with a deeper roster, they aim to play better this season, and start strong with their first match against Livingston Manor on April 3, 2025, at Green Acres Golf Course in Kingston. Just four days later, they’ll face off against Goshen at home on April 7, 2025.
Girls Team Gears Up for a Promising Year
The girls are also in good hands with veteran junior players like Leila Ohkawa, Ciara McManus, and Sadie Giannukos, who are excited to hit the course. Their first outing of the season will be on April 8, 2025, at the beautiful Hickory Hill Golf Course in Warwick, where they’ll compete against John S. Burke Catholic and Sullivan West. Last season, the girls finished with an admirable 8-6 record, and they’re eager to match or exceed that success this year.
