Excitement in Wyoming as the 2025 High School Soccer Season Gets Underway
Hey soccer fans! It’s that time of the year again – the 2025 Wyoming High School boys’ soccer season has officially kicked off, and let me tell you, the action was nothing short of thrilling! Last week, we saw two days filled with fantastic matches. Almost every 4A team got a chance to step onto the field for at least one game, while about half of the 3A teams made their much-anticipated debuts.
Current Standings: It’s Still Early!
As of March 22, 2025, the standings are shaping up nicely, but keep in mind that the season is just starting, and there’s plenty of time for changes. The rest of the teams are gearing up to begin their seasons, with matches scheduled for later this week.
In the 3A conference, the rules are slightly different. To determine a winner in tightly contested matches, teams will head straight to a shootout. For those wondering about the point system, here it is: a win earns teams 3 points, while a tie in regulation offers 1 point before the shootout becomes necessary. Here’s what the current standings look like:
- Lander: 1-0 (3 points)
- Cody: 0-0
- Powell: 0-0
- Lyman: 0-0
- Mountain View: 0-0
- Pinedale: 0-0
- Douglas: 0-0
- Newcastle: 0-0
- Buffalo: 0-2 (0 points)
- Rawlins: 0-2 (0 points)
- Torrington: 0-2 (0 points)
- Worland: 0-2 (0 points)
4A College Competition Heating Up!
Switching over to the 4A conference, the format remains pretty much the same with teams also scoring 3 points for a win and 1 point for a tie, but thankfully, there are no overtime periods to extend those nail-biting finishes. Here’s how things are stacking up:
- Green River: 2-0 (6 points)
- Jackson: 2-0 (6 points)
- Rock Springs: 2-0 (6 points)
- Kelly Walsh: 1-1 (3 points)
- Star Valley: 1-1 (3 points)
- Evanston: 0-2 (0 points)
- Natrona County: 0-2 (0 points)
- Riverton: 0-2 (0 points)
- Cambell County: 2-0 (6 points)
- Cheyenne Central: 2-0 (6 points)
- Laramie: 2-0 (6 points)
- Thunder Basin: 2-0 (6 points)
- Sheridan: 1-0 (3 points)
- Cheyenne East: 1-1 (3 points)
- Cheyenne South: 0-0
Kelly Walsh Shows Strong Performance
One highlight from the opening weekend was Kelly Walsh’s impressive performance, where they hosted matches against Star Valley. The Kelly Walsh girls’ soccer team, reigning champions of the 4A State Championship, have started their season off on a high note as well, winning their first match against Jackson 2-1 and absolutely dominating their opening game against Star Valley with a stunning 14-0 victory. How’s that for a season opener?
The boys’ team, who made a solid impression last year reaching the 4A semi-finals with a 15-6 record, showed their strength against Star Valley as well, clinching a 9-0 win. However, they faced a tougher challenge in their second match against Jackson, where they fell short with a score of 4-1. But don’t count them out just yet! The boys’ roster boasts three returning All-Conference players: forwards Beau Barclay and Ethan Leslie, along with defender Laird Larsen.
What Lies Ahead
With great coaching and talented players on their side, Kelly Walsh is expected to be a strong competitor in 4A this season. The excitement is palpable, and we can’t wait to see how the rest of the teams perform as we dive deeper into the season. If this opening weekend is any indication, we are in for a breathtaking and competitive soccer season across Wyoming!
