This exciting championship took place at Oakland University for Division 2 and at Eastern Michigan University for Division 3, drawing the best high school swimmers and divers from across the state.

Lakeview’s Notable Performances

Lakeview’s talented athletes showcased their skills brilliantly. The team included two swimmers and a diver, and they certainly made an impact! Sophomore Major Baumann swam his way to all-state honors by finishing a remarkable sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 47.30. His performance was particularly exciting as he advanced to the championship finals after placing sixth in the prelims.

Junior diver Peyton Elder, too, shined brightly, earning all-state recognition and finishing seventh overall with a score of 422.9. He advanced from the semis, demonstrating great consistency in his dives. Meanwhile, senior Jack Darland made a splash in the 100 backstroke, wrapping up his championship run with a respectable finish at 14th place and a time of 55.01.

The Lakeview 400 relay team, consisting of swimmers Christian Hancock, Josh Neal, Darland, and Baumann, put in a solid performance too, ending up in 13th place in the consolation finals with a time of 3:17.75. Baumann, however, narrowly missed another event’s consolation finals in the 200 freestyle, finishing 17th in the prelims. In addition, Hancock participated in the 500 freestyle, finishing 22nd, and the 200 freestyle, where he placed 24th. Freshman Easton Kline finished 34th in the 100 backstroke prelims, while Brayden Mentzer secured 37th in the 100 breaststroke.

While the competition was fierce, Lakeview faced some challenges, leading to disqualifications for the 200 freestyle and the 200 IM relay teams during the prelims. Nevertheless, the team’s hard work and spirit were commendable throughout the championship.
