Cincinnati Bengals Re-sign Tight End Mike Gesicki
The Cincinnati Bengals made a significant move over the weekend by re-signing tight end Mike Gesicki to a reported three-year deal. This deal is worth $25.5 million and is viewed by Gesicki as a “life-changing day for me and my family.” His return comes after a solid season where he achieved a personal milestone of 65 catches, the most by a Bengals tight end in 43 years.
Gesicki expressed his gratitude towards the Bengals organization for placing their trust in him. “Everybody’s goal in Cincinnati is to compete for a championship,” he said, adding it was a reason for his decision to come back. The negotiations wrapped up just before the start of free agency, which begins on Monday.
After a productive season, where Gesicki finished with 18 catches in the final two must-win games, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made it clear that both he and Pro Bowl quarterback Joe Burrow wanted the tight end back on the team. For Gesicki, who has played under multiple offensive coordinators and quarterbacks in the past, Taylor’s assurance meant everything.
“I just wanted to get in the right situation with a coach that believes in me and a quarterback that believes in me,” Gesicki shared, highlighting his rapport with Burrow. Their chemistry was noticeable, with more than half of Gesicki’s catches resulting in first downs. The tight end often became a reliable target, especially on critical third downs.
Last month, Gesicki even had a moment of realization about his importance to the team when he heard Burrow mention his name in an interview while sitting on his couch at home. “Did he just say my name?” Gesicki recalled asking his wife.
As the Bengals prepare for an active offseason, they also extended the contract of tight end Tanner Hudson through the 2025 season, further solidifying their offensive lineup. With Gesicki back in the fold, Bengals fans can expect an exciting season ahead as the team continues to build towards a championship goal.
