Welcome to the sunshine state! Last week, the buzz of baseball filled the air as the 2025 high school baseball season kicked off all across Florida. The excitement is palpable here in Brevard County, where our high school teams are taking to the diamond in six different districts. From Calvary Chapel to Merritt Island Christian, every team is eager to make their mark this season.
District Highlights
The scores are starting to roll in, and it looks like Brevard County teams are shaking things up right from the get-go. Currently, we’ve got:
- Brevard HEAT: 1-5
- Calvary Chapel: 2-4
- City of Life Christian: 0-2
- Master’s Academy (Vero Beach): 3-2
- Merritt Island Christian: 1-1
Leading the charge in District 13-1A is Merritt Island Christian, welcoming back Jayvon Morris, who wowed fans last season with an impressive tally: 93 strikeouts, 14 RBIs, 18 hits, and 21 runs. Hot on his heels is Bode Handwork, who contributed 19 runs and 21 hits last year. Merritt Island took a big step forward with a district win over Calvary Chapel, while Calvary did manage to secure a win against City of Life Christian.
More District Matchups
Shifting our focus to the Cocoa Beach teams, Cocoa Beach is showing strong with a 3-2 record while Holy Trinity finds themselves with a 1-3 standing. Nonetheless, John Carroll Catholic is off to a stellar start with a flawless 4-0 record, looking too hot to handle. Right behind them is Melbourne Central Catholic (MCC) with an impressive 5-1 record, coming off last year’s championship title.
Notable players include Thomas Chiuchiolo, who led MCC in RBIs and hits last season, and Ryder Widick, boasting an impressive batting average of .462. On the Holy Trinity side, Devon Jackameit is also worth noting; he threw a no-hitter last season and had a strong performance across the board with 24 RBIs, 30 hits, and 34 runs.
The All-Brevard District
In the all-Brevard County district, the matchups are heating up as well. Cocoa is still trying to find their footing at 0-3, while Titusville snagged a victory against Astronaut, scoring 6-4. Players such as Logan Silvea, Jake Roberts, and Nolan Edwards really shone through with impressive contributions in the win.
The competition is fierce with teams like Space Coast also managing a win over Cocoa early in the season. Each game serves as a reminder that every run counts in the race for the top.
District 8-3A and Beyond
District 8-3A has some fierce opponents competing for dominance. Eau Gallie has opened their season strong at 3-2, bolstered by the return of Johnathan Matos, an athlete to watch who had a stellar performance last year with 26 RBIs and six home runs. Near the top, Palm Bay is standing tall with a quick start at 5-0, showcasing talents like Keiran Cummings, Jose Rivera, and Nolan Werle leading the charge.
Down south, Heritage is struggling a bit at 1-4 but with players like Kethziel Torres and Andrew Francisco, there’s hope for improvement. With Bayside sitting undefeated at 4-0 and Viera also holding strong at 5-1, all eyes are on these teams moving forward.

Recent shakeups in the state rankings have left one of the top-ranked teams reeling, opening the door for others to rise through the ranks.
