ITHACA, NY – Two senior football players from Cornell University, quarterback Jameson Wang and defensive lineman Muhammad-Ali Kobo, are taking significant steps towards realizing their dreams of playing in the NFL. They are currently preparing for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, set to take place from April 24 to April 26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
For Jameson Wang, the prospect of playing professional football has been a long-held ambition. “Ever since my freshman year at Cornell, I have planned to give myself the best chance to pursue my dreams of playing at the next level,” Wang remarked. In pursuit of this goal, he strategically chose to take extra courses during the football off-season to graduate a semester early. This move allows him to dedicate more time to prepare for the NFL.
Wang participated in the Hula Bowl on January 11, a notable all-star game where over 400 NFL scouts had the chance to observe his skills on the field. Now, he is focusing on the college pro days, where he will showcase his talent at events hosted by the University of Buffalo and Columbia University in the coming weeks.
With an impressive college career under his belt, Wang played 37 games and scored a total of 78 passing and rushing touchdowns, amassing 8,775 total yards. He was also ranked as the number 23 quarterback in the country for passing completion percentage during the 2023-2024 season.
Meanwhile, Muhammad-Ali Kobo has been gearing up for the draft a bit differently. After a rocky start in his freshman year, where he played only four games, he sought additional eligibility but faced a denial from the NCAA. Since December, Kobo has been diligently training alongside other aspiring players, including Jackson Hayes, a former player from Ohio State University.
At Cornell, Kobo played 29 games, contributing significantly with 70 tackles, 6 sacks, and 18 quarterback hurries. As he prepares for the Columbia University Pro Day alongside Wang, he reflects on his journey and the support from his family, including his parents and brother, as well as his coaches.
“I think playing football and getting through the college stage of my life helped me understand that this is not the final stage of my total football career,” Kobo said, emphasizing his commitment to continue pursuing his passion for the sport.
As April approaches, both Wang and Kobo are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to demonstrate their skills once more before NFL teams make their selections. The excitement surrounding the potential of these two Cornell athletes has the local community hopeful for a bright future in professional football.
