Surprise, Arizona, has become the focus of a troubling investigation involving the head football coach of Mesa’s Dobson High School. On Thursday, Surprise police arrested Bill Godsil on school grounds, leading to serious accusations against him.

Godsil faces two significant charges: aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation, classified as a Class 2 felony, and furnishing harmful items to minors, a Class 4 felony. Importantly, the police stated that these charges are not linked to any current students at Dobson High School. Chris Thomas, a spokesperson for the Surprise Police Department, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further details will not be released immediately.

The circumstances surrounding Godsil’s arrest remain unclear, as the probable cause statement is sealed, according to Clara Colmenero, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Superior Court. Godsil has been working with Mesa Public Schools since 2019, serving as the head football coach and recently taking up a position as a junior varsity baseball coach. He also teaches physical education and is involved in a credit recovery program, helping students make up missed classes necessary for graduation.

After the arrest, Dobson High School Principal Gabbi Buckley communicated with families, stating that Godsil was immediately placed on administrative leave. She emphasized that the school district is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. Additionally, Buckley noted that Godsil possesses a fingerprint clearance card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety, which allows him to work with students.

This situation has left many in the Dobson High community concerned, and the school’s administration is closely monitoring the developments as more information becomes available.
