In Appleton, a notable shift is happening in the local high school football scene. Mark Krommenacker has made a significant career move by resigning as the head coach of Appleton East to take on a new role as the head football coach at Little Chute. Krommenacker’s tenure at Appleton East lasted seven seasons, during which he recorded an 18-41 win-loss record. His most successful season was in 2019, when the team reached the playoffs.
This past season, Appleton East struggled with a 2-7 record, although they began the season on a positive note, winning their first two games, including a solid 6-0 victory against the respected Kettle Moraine. The Patriots had one other winning season under Krommenacker, going 6-4 in 2019. Appleton East’s activities director, Sam Engelland, expressed gratitude for Krommenacker’s commitment, stating, “His dedication has made a lasting impact on our student-athletes and school community. We wish him all the best in his future.”
Now, as Krommenacker transitions to Little Chute, he steps into a program with a strong legacy. The Mustangs have had success under former coach Ted Evers, compiling a 38-23 record in six seasons while making the postseason every year. Krommenacker is excited about the prospect, noting, “This isn’t a team that needs rebuilding. Coach Evers has continued the long line of successful football here.” He is determined to bring his enthusiasm and focus to enhance the program further.
In other local sports news, the Neenah High School soccer program has appointed Kevin Baetke as its new head boys soccer coach. With 13 years of experience, including a successful stint at Oshkosh North, Baetke has earned recognition as a skilled coach, having led his teams to multiple regional titles. He takes over from Martin Valenzuela, who had led the team to an FVA title last season.
These coaching changes mark a period of renewal and growth for both Appleton and Little Chute athletic programs as they look forward to new seasons ahead.
