Chase Longwell Resigns as Marysville High School Football Coach Just Two Days After Appointment

Marysville, Ohio – In a surprising turn of events, Chase Longwell resigned just two days after being named the new head football coach at Marysville High School. The announcement was made by athletic director Joey Day on Thursday, pending school board approval.

Longwell, who is currently an eighth-grade science teacher at Heritage Middle School in Hilliard, made the tough decision due to concerns over securing a teaching position within the district by the start of the 2025-26 school year. He expressed his disappointment, stating that he believed being part of the school community was vital for effective coaching.

“It was a tough decision,” Longwell remarked. “I’m very disappointed. I believe truly to be an effective coach, you have to immerse yourself in the school and community.” He also highlighted the financial challenges the district is facing, mentioning two failed levies that resulted in increased athletic participation fees.

Longwell was scheduled to meet with players and parents that very night, but the unexpected resignation left many feeling uncertain about the upcoming football season. Day released a statement saying, “The Marysville Athletic Department is saddened to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances, coach Longwell has made the difficult decision to resign as the new football coach for Marysville High School. We wish coach Longwell the best in his future endeavors.”

At just 30 years old, Longwell had an impressive coaching resume, having been part of the staff at his alma mater, Hilliard Darby, since 2017. He worked his way up through various positions, including co-offensive coordinator, before stepping into the head coach role at Marysville, succeeding Brent Johnson, who resigned after eight seasons.

Longwell reflected on how quickly things unfolded, saying, “Everything happened really fast. We’ll see what the future holds, but as of right now, I haven’t really given it too much thought.” The Marysville community will now look forward to finding a suitable replacement as they prepare for the upcoming football season.
