Denver is buzzing with excitement as the Denver Broncos Foundation announces a groundbreaking initiative that aims to significantly improve the safety and performance of high school football players across Colorado. This initiative includes the distribution of over 15,000 smart helmets to all 277 high school football teams in the state at no cost.
In a historic move, the Broncos are making their largest philanthropic investment ever through a partnership with Riddell and the Colorado High School Athletic Association (CHSAA). The program named ALL IN. ALL COVERED reflects the team’s commitment to enhancing player safety and overall football culture in the region. “This being the largest philanthropic investment in Broncos’ history…I just want that to sink in for you,” said CHSAA commissioner Mike Krueger. He also emphasized that this effort goes beyond merely providing helmets; it’s about ensuring players have access to top-notch gear designed to improve health and safety.
The new Riddell Axiom helmets feature advanced technology that measures contact points, allowing coaches to analyze player performance and adjust techniques accordingly. “It’s the gold-standard helmet,” Krueger noted, explaining how the technology can significantly benefit coaching strategies.
Each helmet is custom-fitted using 3D imaging to ensure the best safety and comfort. Allie Engelken, vice president of community impact for the Broncos Foundation, stated that every football player in the state will be able to wear a properly fitted helmet that maximizes protection. Engelken pointed out, “If we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it right.” This means every high school will receive 25% of their helmets in the first year, with the remainder dispersed evenly over the following three years.
With this initiative, the Broncos hope to alleviate financial pressures on athletic departments across Colorado. Krueger provided insight into the struggles many schools face with funding for equipment, highlighting how this investment will positively impact athletic budgets statewide. “This is really going to have a significant impact,” he affirmed.
