Homewood-Flossmoor High School Welcomes New Football Coach Troy McAllister

Homewood, IL – The Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School has officially announced the hiring of Troy McAllister as their new head football coach and Physical Education teacher. McAllister will take over from Terrell Alexander, who led the Vikings for the past four seasons.

McAllister’s appointment comes with big expectations as he steps into a program that finished the 2024 Illinois high school football season with a 4-5 record. The team ended the year on a down note, suffering three consecutive losses, which pushed them to 61st in the Illinois On3 Composite Rankings. Their last winning season was in 2022 under Alexander, with a record of 6-4, and the last state championship victory dates back to 1994.

Boasting a robust coaching resume, McAllister has a career record of 113-48 and has secured two state championships in 2015 and 2017. He also led his team to a state runner-up finish in 2014. His accolades include the prestigious 2018 Gatorade Coaching Excellence Award and the 2020 MaxPreps Illinois Top High School Football Coach.

Previously, McAllister began his head coaching journey at Dunbar Career Academy High School, but found remarkable success at Wendell Phillips Academy High School, where he led the Wildcats to a stellar record of 94-28 and brought home two state titles. Notably, his tenure at Phillips marked them as the only Chicago Public Schools program to win state championships. Additionally, he developed 23 players who advanced to compete at the NCAA Division I level.

Most recently, McAllister coached Carl Sandburg High School, transforming the Eagles into a potent offensive team that set passing records in 2023 and 2024. Under his leadership, Sandburg had three state postseason appearances in four years.

Alongside his coaching duties, he will also serve as the school’s Health and Driver Education teacher, contributing his teaching experience from multiple schools, including Dulles Elementary School and Benjamin Mays Elementary School. McAllister even has international coaching experience as a wide receivers coach at Queen’s University in Canada.

With McAllister at the helm, the Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings are looking to turn around their football fortunes when the new season kicks off in 2025-26.
