Benjamin Russell High School Names New Football Coach
ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – Benjamin Russell High School has announced the hiring of Kirk Johnson as its new head football coach. Johnson, who comes from Montgomery Catholic, has a strong coaching background, having spent 12 years at the school. During his time there, he served as the head coach for four seasons.
Johnson’s tenure at Montgomery Catholic was marked by outstanding success. As head coach, he led the Knights to an impressive 55-2 record, securing back-to-back state titles in 2023 and 2024, first in class 4A and then in class 5A. His achievements did not go unnoticed, earning him the 5A Coach of the Year award for the 2024 season.
Now, Johnson is set to become the 19th head football coach of the Wildcats at Benjamin Russell High School. His experience and proven track record in high school football are expected to play a crucial role in driving the football program forward.
