GREEN, Ohio — A tragic incident has led to the loss of 32-year-old James Mashburn, whose life was cut short in a car accident early Tuesday morning. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Summit County Sheriff’s Department are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
James Mashburn was not just a valued member of the community but also an intervention specialist at Stow-Munroe Falls High School and an assistant football coach at Green High School. His contributions to education and sports were significant, impacting many young lives.
Dr. Felisha Gould, the Superintendent of Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools, expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies are with the Mashburn family, his friends, students, colleagues, players past and present, and everyone in the Bulldog and Green Local Schools communities.” She emphasized the community’s strength and compassion during this trying time.
According to the initial reports from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, Mashburn was driving a pickup truck northbound on I-77 in Green when he collided with a disabled semi-truck shortly after midnight. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:30 a.m.
Amanda Murray, principal of Stow-Munroe Falls High School, remembered him fondly, saying, “Jimmy was a cherished member of the Bulldog Community and also a beloved football coach for Green Local Schools.” Mashburn’s commitment to mentoring students extended well beyond classroom instruction, leaving a meaningful legacy.
In a heartfelt letter, Jeff Miller, the Superintendent of Green Local Schools, highlighted the community’s grief, stating, “In the wake of Coach Mashburn’s heartbreaking loss, we as a community are grappling with deep sorrow.” He praised Mashburn’s dedication, which influenced students’ lives through lessons of resilience, hard work, and teamwork.
With Mashburn’s previous role as an intervention specialist at Green Local Schools, his loss has resonated deeply. Julie McMahan, a spokesperson for Green Local Schools, stated, “Our district staff, athletic department and student body are devastated.” She described Mashburn as a “genuine good person” who made a lasting positive impact on everyone around him.
In response to this tragedy, Green High School and Middle School will provide counseling support for students and staff on Wednesday. The investigation surrounding the cause of the crash is still ongoing, with no further details at this time.
