Orland Park has officially welcomed a new face to its football community. On Tuesday night, Homewood-Flossmoor announced that Troy McAllister is the new head football coach for the Vikings. This decision comes after weeks of speculation regarding McAllister’s future.
McAllister, who has spent the past four seasons at Sandburg, holds a record of 19-20. While this may not seem spectacular, his tenure included several notable victories and resulted in three state playoff appearances. Before Sandburg, McAllister gained recognition during his successful 11 years coaching at Phillips, where he achieved a remarkable 94-28 record. Under his leadership, Phillips clinched the Class 4A state championship in 2015-2016 and captured the Class 5A title in 2017-2018. These championships mark significant milestones as they are the only state football titles in Public League history.
In a statement, McAllister expressed his excitement about the new role, saying, “I’m excited for the opportunity to lead the Homewood-Flossmoor football program. The community, school, and administration are all aligned in supporting the proud tradition within the Homewood-Flossmoor football program.”
In addition to coaching, McAllister will also serve as a physical education, health, and drivers education teacher at Homewood-Flossmoor. The school’s athletic director, Matt Lyke, shared enthusiasm about McAllister’s arrival, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Troy McAllister to the Homewood-Flossmoor family. His record of success on the field, coupled with his dedication to education and community engagement, makes him the ideal leader for our football program and an outstanding addition to our teaching staff.”
As Homewood-Flossmoor looks ahead, the community is eager to support its new coach and the promising future of its football program.
