Clovis East High School Football Shines in Senior Season
Clovis, CA – Clovis East High School has seen an impressive season come to a close, largely thanks to the hard work and dedication of quarterback Tyus Miller. Miller’s journey as a player has been one of growth, with his efforts culminating in a standout senior year. Under the guidance of coach Brandon Nagle, Miller developed into one of the top quarterbacks in the Central Section.
As the season progressed, Miller aimed high, dreaming of leading the Timberwolves to the state championship. Although the ultimate goal wasn’t achieved, the team still put together a remarkable 12-1 season and captured the Tri-River Athletic Conference championship with a perfect 5-0 record.
Miller finished the season with impressive statistics, completing 176 out of 240 passes for 2,899 yards and throwing 36 touchdowns against just five interceptions. His contribution didn’t stop there; Miller also rushed for 714 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns.
“There has been a lot of hard work that’s gone into this and throughout the years,” Miller remarked. “Football is just an amazing sport. I’m very grateful that I can play it.” He credited his teammates, including wideouts Harold Duvall, Blake Mathieu, and Donyell Booker Jr., who all played key roles in the team’s success.
After his high school career, Miller plans to take his talents to UC Davis. “What I’m going to take there is just the culture of Clovis East football. Playing hard and outworking everyone,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Central Grizzlies also had an exciting season. Under coach Kyle Biggs, they got off to a hot start but faced challenges when they lost two straight games early in the year. However, they responded strongly, winning seven consecutive games and later defeating Clovis North in the Central Section Division-1A championship.
Biggs expressed pride in his team’s progress, stating, “Our kids realized: ‘You know what? We’re just as good as they are.’” This mindset helped propel the Grizzlies to a CIF state championship where they narrowly fell short to Edison-Huntington Beach.
Other notable players this season included Brandon Smith from Central, who dominated on both offense and defense, rushing for 1,871 yards and scoring 25 touchdowns, and McKay Madsen from Clovis North, who excelled defensively with several key interceptions.
The future looks bright for these young athletes, as they head to college and beyond, carrying with them the lessons learned and friendships made on the field.
