Greenville County High Schools to Get New Artificial Turf

Greenville County is making a big upgrade to its high school football stadiums. The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees has decided to install artificial turf in all 15 stadiums across the county. This decision came on Tuesday during their board meeting, and it is expected to cost around $24 million.

The change from grass to artificial turf is aimed at creating more opportunities for sporting events throughout the year. With the new surfaces, the stadiums will not only continue to host football, but they will also be suitable for other sports such as soccer and lacrosse. This will help maximize the use of these facilities and benefit more student-athletes.

Work on the new turf is scheduled to begin in November, right after the conclusion of the 2025 football season. Wade Hampton High School and Greenville High School will be the first locations to receive the new playing surfaces, according to information presented at the board meeting.

Once installed, the annual maintenance cost for the artificial grass is expected to be around $1.1 million. Although costs for sports facilities have been rising, the competition among turf products is helping to keep prices in check, resulting in better deals for consumers.

Overall, this investment in sports infrastructure reflects a commitment to providing quality facilities for students and the community. It is an exciting time for sports in Greenville County as these changes will enhance the experience for players and fans alike.
